Collaboration between Koja and Entos results in smarter roof extractors

COLLABORATION BETWEEN KOJA AND ENTOS TAKES THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND INTELLIGENCE OF ROOF EXTRACTORS TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL

Koja has entered into a pilot partnership agreement with ENTOS Energiatekniikan Optimisäätö Oy, a company that designs and realises advanced HVAC and electricity system building automation services. Entos’ intelligent solutions can be used to measure the use of roof extractors, air quality and characteristics such as humidity, heat and airborne compounds. In turn, this enables the development of smarter and more energy-efficient ventilation systems.

“Starting the collaboration with Entos was straightforward, as we are both Finnish companies with unrivalled expertise and products based on cutting-edge technology. This means that we are not competing with each other; instead, our products support each other. It’s also important that both companies find energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint as matters worth investing in. Our common characteristics include the above-mentioned values, our operating processes, our products and our actions,” says Matti Huvinen, Koja’s marketing manager.

SOLUTIONS THAT FIT IN WITH THE RHYTHM OF LIVING

Koja’s HiFEK ECO is a more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly roof extractor. In the revised range, carefully considered fan options have been matched with the airflow ranges, resulting in even more energy-efficient options. As the other Koja products, HiFEK ECO is manufactured using emission-free electricity.

When you are looking for more energy-efficient ventilation and optimised conditions, Entos is the partner for you. Entos’ control equipment makes sure that the necessary data from the roof extractors is available to allow for adjustment of the air flows to the rhythm of living.

“Most of the currently available ventilation fans operate with a traditional three-step timing system. In other words, morning, afternoon and evening ventilation have been configured into the device, meaning that ventilation occurs at the same time every day. With our system, you can schedule the ventilation based on when people are at home. You have to keep in mind that the daily rhythm of most people is not the same every day,” says Aki Pohjalainen, the managing director of Entos.

Currently, Entos mainly manufactures solutions for residential buildings and service properties, but industrial applications will become more common in the near future.

“VERIFICATION IS AN OPPORTUNITY”

Machine intelligence has been a key part of ventilation systems for the last 20 years, but the automation technology used has not taken any great leaps forward over the years. The most recent key features are remote control and cloud services. Pohjalainen believes that the next step will be the automation of control. This would allow ventilation systems to independently adjust and optimise their operation, further increasing their efficiency. Measuring will also become more prominent in ventilation systems in the near future.

“When designing an effective and energy-efficient ventilation system, it is essential not to assume, but to know. Measurements can provide valuable data to support the design. You could say that verification is an opportunity.”

“You should keep in mind that ventilation system renovations are invariably large investments, so both the client and the end user of the ventilation system must be able to reap the benefits within a reasonable timeframe. The products must deliver on their promises and energy must be conserved. In the best case, a good ventilation system can allow you to avoid a window renovation project, for example”, Pohjalainen explains.

“FLUENT COOPERATION IS THE KEY”

The first collaboration project between Koja and Entos went very well, and the products of the two companies are a good match. The companies see each other as innovative and growing companies for which being involved in the development of more energy-efficient ventilation solutions for all types of applications is important. The project taught the companies that the industry should focus more on collaboration and less on competition, because advanced automation systems and top-quality devices complement each other.

“Entos shares the same values and ideas as Koja, so we are happy to have found each other through this collaboration project. Both companies have the technical expertise, know-how, understanding and vision required for solutions of the future,” Pohjalainen sums up.

“Fluent cooperation is the key. It enables growth and profitability of both parties,” Huvinen adds.
